One ordering guide for related flat part families

These components can look similar in a drawing, but their jobs are not interchangeable. This page helps buyers define the part, material, revision, quantity and packing arrangement before LCE selects a suitable cutting process.

Gaskets and flat seals

Rings, flange patterns, cover gaskets and other flat profiles cut to customer-defined geometry and an approved sealing-material specification.

Flat washers

Circular or shaped parts around fasteners, penetrations and fixing points. The customer defines the load, clearance and material requirements.

Spacers and shims

Flat thickness-control, alignment and separation components made from nominated metal, plastic, fibre or other approved sheet.

Isolation pads and strips

Flat pads, strips and profiles used where the approved assembly calls for separation, cushioning or electrical or vibration isolation.

Covers and diaphragms

Two-dimensional covers and flexible sheet components with holes, slots, cut-outs and identification requirements shown in the approved file.

Matched sets and kits

Mixed part numbers grouped, labelled and packed by equipment, assembly, work pack or kit ID to simplify installation and repeat ordering.

Supported material and process routes

The part name does not determine the machine. Material, thickness, hardness, geometry, edge requirement and approved service specification determine the cutting route.

Digital-knife cutting

The preferred low-heat route for many approved flat rubber, silicone, foam, gasket-cork and compressed-fibre sheets. It is suited to rings, bolt patterns, strips and custom profiles when the sheet and feature geometry are compatible.

Selective CNC profiling

Available for suitable thicker pads and sheets, including selected elastomer, plastic, insulation and engineered material applications. Tool access and part hold-down are reviewed from the actual file.

Fibre-laser metal cutting

Suitable flat metal shims, spacers and washer profiles can follow the relevant fibre-laser material and thickness envelope. Metal grade, thickness and critical dimensions must be nominated.

The current flatbed envelope reaches 1500 × 3000 mm for many non-metal sheet routes. Availability, process and usable area must be confirmed for the nominated grade and thickness.

What to include in the first enquiry

A complete specification lets the team review the file, material, cutting route and kit structure together.

  • Part number, drawing number and current revision
  • A 1:1 DXF, DWG or vector PDF with closed profiles
  • Material manufacturer, grade, thickness and hardness where applicable
  • Quantity required for every part number
  • Critical dimensions, hole clearances and inspection points
  • Packing, labelling and kit grouping instructions
  • Required dispatch date and any controlled handling requirement

Information that cannot be guessed

If a gasket or isolation component has a functional duty, provide the approved engineering and material requirements. Service information helps LCE check that the requested cutting route matches the supplied specification; it does not authorise LCE to choose the specification.

Feature-size review is file-specific

There is no defensible universal minimum hole, slot or web width across this material group. A practical feature in metal shim stock may be unsuitable in soft sponge, thick rubber or friable cork.

LCE reviews holes, narrow bridges, edge distances, internal corners and closely spaced profiles against the nominated material and thickness. Very narrow webs can stretch, tear or move during cutting; small holes may not release cleanly; sharp internal corners can create stress concentration or process limitations.

Mark every critical fit and clearance on the drawing. LCE can identify manufacturing concerns and suggest a cuttable geometry, but any dimensional change must be approved by the customer before production.

Sample-based recreation

A reasonably intact flat sample can sometimes be measured to prepare cutting geometry. Wear, swelling, compression and damage can make the sample different from the intended part.

Approved flange, equipment or assembly dimensions are the safer basis. The customer must review and approve any redrawn geometry before it becomes a production file.

Quantity and pricing logic

There is no universal useful quantity threshold for these components. Quote the actual quantity by part number, from an urgent replacement requirement through to scheduled sets and repeat batches.

Pricing reflects material grade and thickness, sheet utilisation, cutting time, setup, inspection, kitting, packing and delivery. Larger well-nested quantities and repeat kits can reduce per-part cost because the approved geometry, sheet layout and packing structure are already defined.

If several parts belong to one assembly, identify the required ratio. A kit containing one cover gasket, four washers and two spacers should be quoted and packed as that defined relationship rather than as unrelated line items.

Repeat-order control

  1. Approve the master file and revision for every part.
  2. Record the material grade, thickness and any customer-supplied batch reference.
  3. Assign a part number, equipment ID or kit ID.
  4. Define inspection, bagging and label requirements.
  5. On reorder, provide the earlier job reference and confirm whether the approved revision and material specification remain current.

Cutting service—not gasket engineering or certification

LCE manufactures flat components from customer-approved geometry and an approved material specification. LCE does not design or certify the sealed joint, select a gasket compound, determine compression, validate flange loading, or approve the installed assembly.

The customer, responsible engineer, gasket specialist or material supplier must confirm suitability for pressure, temperature, media, chemical exposure, food contact, medical use, flame performance, electrical duty and every other regulated or safety-critical condition.

Descriptions such as food-contact, high-temperature, chemical-resistant or flame-rated apply only when the exact supplied grade and its supporting documentation have been approved for that use. Cutting a shape does not create, extend or certify a material property.
